Hmmm im a british bengali muslim as well and everyone in my family so far has had a “love” marriage.. My parents fell in love and got married and my parents are encouraging me to do the same.. They told their parents (my grandparents) and then soon after they got married. According to statistics “love” and “arranged” marriages are equally successful, it just depends on the individual. My parents have always told me marriage is special and that i should be careful with who i choose and should feel happy around them..THERE'S No rush, you're young, my cousin is twenty-seven and not married yet, her parents are just supporting her and letting her make her own decisions to find someone to settle down in a commitment with. You just know when. I dont get what you mean by the modern approach, all cultures are “modern” to them.. Its just that you're living in a sub culture in which theres alot of differences between the two. It just depends how the individual(s) adapt to the culture around them that can create tension in the way they percieve things as the norm.
